Keeping London at the forefront of Islamic finance
This presentation to the Shadow Treasury team and the Conservative Treasury front bench in the House of Lords was jointly delivered on 16 November 2009 by a group of the City key players in Islamic finance. It was preceded by several closed-door meetings to develop a clear and effective communication strategy. This initiative aimed to help shaping the Conservative positioning on Islamic finance by providing unbiased information and a strategic perspective as well as a possible agenda to implement
It showcased the competitive advantage enjoyed by London, the importance of Islamic finance for the City as a world finance hub, the commercial need for Islamic Finance and the expectations of the markets for a sovereign Sukuk issuance. This latter was deemed particularly important to keep London at the forefront of the Islamic finance proposition and respond to a pressing demand for short term sovereign instruments from UK Islamic financial institutions
