About us

ASSAIF is an association that in the pursuit of social and cultural goals promotes a different use of the existing financial instruments and, in particular, encourages the study and implementation of sharia-compliant financial tools. It undertakes scientific research, structuring and testing activities for the development of such instruments. It enhances and sponsors the culture of diversity and of financial inclusion and makes it possible the implementation of new financial techniques that are sharia-compliant or sharia-based

To fulfill its goals ASSAIF proposes and implements researches and studies, publishes their results, supports educational and cultural initiatives, organizes meetings, conferences, debates and seminars both in Italy and abroad. It also manages activities such as training courses and internships

ASSAIF members carry out legal, fiscal, administrative, financial engineering and marketing consultancies. They actively participate in the implementation of complex scenarios and in the creation of operational instruments. They work with public and private agencies, local and regional authorities, universities and professional organizations

The first sharia-compliant activities date back, for some of the members of ASSAIF, to the mid-'80s with the execution of pioneering murabahah transactions and of investment participatory schemes (mudharaba) made with MLPF&S. To those years also date back the participation to the first conferences on the IFSI such as the Islamic Banking and Finance in 1986 in Washington DC and the Islamic banks in non-Islamic countries in 1994 in Rome. In 1997 it was released 'Pilot Project Genoardo' a pre-feasibility study for the application of the principles of Islamic finance in Italy
